August 3, 2008 – Start online application

October/November 2008 – Decide to apply for a Master’s International program and start PC service summer/fall 2010

March/April 2009 – Ask for Peace Corps recommendations

July 5, 2009 – Finally submit Peace Corps application

July 21, 2009 – Receive email from recruiter saying she mailed me additional paperwork (skills addendums, fingerprint card, etc.)

July 24, 2009 – Received packet in the mail

July 28, 2009 – Send in completed packet

August 6, 2009 – Receive email from recruiter about scheduling interview

August 26, 2009 – Interview with recruiter. Receive nomination for a public health program leaving July, August or September 2010.

August 27, 2009 – Start master’s classes at Johns Hopkins

October/November 2009 – Complete medical/dental exams.

mid-November 2009 – Mail in medical forms

December 23, 2009 – Receive email from Master’s International placement liaison requesting a transcript of my master’s coursework and an updated resume

December 29, 2009 – Have wisdom teeth removed & mail in dental forms

January 13, 2010 – Receive medical clearance

January 14, 2010 – Receive dental clearance

February – March 2010 – Wait…

March 22, 2010 – Email Master’s International placement liaison to check in – was told I will hear from a placement officer in the next month

April 5, 2010 – Receive email from a placement officer about a program in sub-saharan Africa leaving early August. Placement officer says I will need to ride a bike for this program. I buy a bike and take my first bike-riding lesson.

April 6, 2010 – Invite is in the mail!

April 7, 2010 – Receive invitation to serve as a community health volunteer in Uganda leaving August 3, 2010 (now August 9)

April – July 2010 – Continue to practice my bike riding skills J

August 9, 2010 - present - live in Uganda!
